Reamer shoes
To avoid complications during RIH of casings, license holders take a set of measures to safely run casings in hole depending on the complexity of the geological profile, the horizontal section length and the borehole integrity.
The borehole integrity is assessed on the basis of complications observed as the drilling tool moves in the course of drilling and RIH/POOH operations.
To help the casing reach the design depth, reamer shoes are used, among other solutions.
Advantages:
- Casing strings can be run in hole to the design depth by reaming the borehole without the need for rotation of the casing string.
- The reamer shoe can be easily milled out since the cutting part and the gauge are made of an easily drillable material. Besides, rotating parts of the shoe can be fixed during drilling.
- Suitable for all types of well designs, both when run in hole together with the completion equipment or without it.
